Child and Adolescent Psychology Service

All the therapeutic techniques we use have been scientifically tested over many years and clinically proven to be effective for a range of issues. Our approach is to offer a bespoke service which is likely to draw on one or more of the following:

CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) explores the way our thoughts, feelings and behaviours interlink and cause distress. We look at our thought processes and focus on challenging unhelpful thinking styles and behaviours and improving emotional regulation.

The Cognitive Triangle

DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) gives us the skills to help manage overwhelming emotions through a combination of distress tolerance, emotion regulation skills, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness.

ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) allows us to notice unpleasant thoughts and feeling without getting hooked up on them. It uses mindfulness as a way to tolerate distress, accepting unpleasant thoughts and feelings as a normal part of life, and working towards leading a values driven life.

Positive Psychology focusses on what makes life most worth living, for both individual and societal well-being. It takes an applied approach to human flourishing often involving developing an ‘attitude of gratitude’.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is most commonly used for survivors of all forms of trauma, it has been clinically proven to help with symptoms of PTSD. EMDR therapy is recognized as a best practice for the treatment of PTSD by the U.K National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the U.S. Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, and the World Health Organization.
